Rose's Cookies
By: Mary Harlan Lincoln (Lincoln Collection)

  • 1 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 8 - 9 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 6 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • dash almond flavoring
  • dash vanilla flavoring

(Tested: very good-similar to a sugar cookie) Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs one at a time. In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg. In a small bowl add 2 flavorings to milk. Add milk and flour mixtures alternately to sugar mixture until dough is stiff enough to roll out thin. Refrigerate for one hour. Bring to room temperature and roll out thin. Cut with a tea cup or cookie cutter. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 - 12 minutes.
